Riding on the hype and legendary "Lord of the Rings" resurgence, I was skeptical about purchasing this book, thinking that it may be a quick exploitive means to cash in on the fantasy regrowth. While this book has many of the recurring fantasy themes found else where, the contributors to this graphic novel have produced a fun, can't-put-it down comic.

The story centers around the person Robin Drake as he journeys to warn the other inhabits on "earth" of the return of the Beast, a villian the others thought had died fifteen years ago. Many of the superheros are cleverly introduced and united under the banner of saving the "world." Some heros take more proding than others, which aids in the story telling. It was interesting using Robin as the central character - considering he has always been a sidekick (even on his own, Nightwing has never really broken out of Batman's shadow).

This move gives the story more force and gives a "Frodo" of the Lord of the Rings" trilogy feel to the book, without copying the material too much. The formula also works well, so why change a genre that works so well - an unlikely hero, who saves the world.

The art is outstanding and many great artist contribute their unquie talents to provide pertinent images as the story progresses. A must for graphiic novel fans, who just want to read a good story, view some great art, and have a nice evening.

This books is, in my opinion, the most accurate souce of information ever written on Hawaii's Japanese community. Other authors, such as Takaki, have also written excellent historical guides; however, they are usually mainland-born and don't/can't understand life in Hawaii. "Kodomo No Tame Ni" is a virtual encyclopedia of many lesser-known aspects of the Issei generation, and illustrates the past which has created the atmosphere of modern Hawaii.

Anyone interested in discovering the true past of Hawaii's Japanese (as well as Hawaii's other ethnic groups) should definitely get their hands on this collection of stories, which-- due to the growing mainland-ish "Americanization" of Hawaii-- will soon be forgotten.

In this day and age, I don't think another book of this sort will ever be written.

Grant's book of Korean proverbs provided me with interesting insights into the Korean language and culture. The book is enjoyable, and the proverbs are translated both for meaning and word for word. Related title: Whitefield Korean--This book combines Grant's Guide to Korean Characters and his proverb book. It also contains progressive language lessons designed for use by missionaries.

This is a great book for novices! If you are just starting to explore BDSM, and don't know much about it, this erotic book will totally satisfy your curiosity. It's about a young woman, Kathi, whose mother dies. When Kathi begins to go through her deceased mother's belongings, she finds "strange and unusual" things, such as whips, paddles, restraints, etc. She makes friends with a professional dominatrix, and through her Kathi finds her mentor, Horace. She becomes Horace's submissive and lover. This is one of my favorite books and I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the scene or interested in learning about the scene.

II continues the celebration of American lighthouses begun in the first volume, paralleling information presented in the second new PBS series and providing fine color photos of the lighthouses as well as a healthy dose of local and lighthouse history. Any with a fascination for the lighthouse will find this an invaluable guide.

I've read this book last summer and before reading it I've never thought homosexuality is an issue to be discussed by everyone.
